Activity - Day, date and time:

Sunday, April 14, 2019 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Venue/Location: Jamison Southern Cross Club

1-4pm Sunday 14 April, Jamison Sunday afternoon Jazz at Jamison – enjoy three hours of free live jazz from 1pm in the lounge, presented by Canberra Jazz Club. Jazz Alley is an amalgamation of five of the best traditional jazz players on the South Coast, producing a toe-tapping and driving sound. The music is from the early years of jazz when the streets of New Orleans were jumping with the sounds of hot jazz. This was a new sound in the early 1900s and was greatly influenced by names such as Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong and Kid Ory to name a few. You are guaranteed a great afternoon’s entertainment with this band as they play many of the popular tunes from that era. Band leader Bev Long plays banjo and sings but she also loves to dance, and a highlight of any performance by Jazz Alley is a tap-dancing display from Bev. Completing this quintet of seasoned musicians will be Bob Porter on clarinet and saxophone, Peter Poole on trombone and trumpet, John Roach on drums, and John Moffatt on sousaphone. Free event, no need to book
